Wood and wire and flesh spoke.” – Jerry Jeff Walker on David Bromberg Bromberg, known as a “hired gun” guitarist for recording sessions, ultimately playing on hundreds of records by artists including Bob Dylan (New Morning, Self Portrait, Dylan), Link Wray, The Eagles, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, George Harrison, Jorma Kaukonen and Carly Simon. David Bromberg is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter. Bromberg has an eclectic style, playing bluegrass, blues, folk, jazz, country and western, and rock and roll equally well. Mark Cosgrove's distinctive, creative flatpicking sound is known and respected on both sides of the Atlantic, and it seems like he's just getting started. Not bad for someone who grew up in a Manhattan apartment surrounded by classical music and whose original musical ambition was to become a drummer. "My first instrument was guitar, but I started playing drums when I was 10 or 11. I learned from records and played in school bands," he says. "I still love to play drums. I think that helped me have a halfway decent sense of time and feel for music. In this genre, I believe that feel and groove is essential." After flirting with drums, Mark returned to guitar but it wasn't until he heard the glorious wail of Clarence White on the Byrds' "Untitled" album that the guitar really took hold of him. Around the same time, Mark heard Doc Watson and the famous "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" album and made the connection that Doc and Clarence both were flatpicking the acoustic guitar. "I was hooked and have been ever since," Mark says now. |

| Nate Grower – Fiddle/Mandolin/Vocals | |||||||||||||||||||||||
The youngest member of David Bromberg’s group, Nate Grower was motivated to take up the fiddle as a teenager after hearing bluegrass music at his home in western New York . He took a few classical violin lessons and made his debut with a symphony orchestra at the age of 17 at a performance of Stravinsky’s “Firebird”. Since moving to Delaware in 2005, he has concentrated his efforts on mastering the art of bluegrass fiddle. His fiery solos transfix audiences, and he is unmatched among fiddlers in his ability to play driving rhythmic backup. In addition to performing with David Bromberg, Nate plays in Chester River Runoff. Nate has recorded with the Stonemans, has a solo album out on Patuxent records, and has subbed with high profile bluegrass acts such as Audie Blaylock & Redline and Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass. “Grower shows himself to be one of the younger folks to keep your eye on. His chops are real, and his tone and timing nearly impeccable. His reading of “Leon Kenningtron Waltz” is a thing of wonder. – Bluegrass Unlimited |
